The C4 Waterman crew is awake and preparing for the 2011 Teva Mountain Games SUP Sprint presented by C4 Waterman and Maui Jim. Today we will have twelve team riders racing down Gore Creek on a wide variety of our boards and we wanted to offer a look behind the scenes. The returning champion Noa Ginella is starting at the front of the pack closely followed by several of our other male and female team riders as they take on the 3-mile course through Vail, Colorado.
Many people have asked what our team riders are riding at the mountain games so here is a quick rundown...
The inflatable 12'6 River Runner was a hit at the 2010 Teva Mountain Games after our team rider Noa Ginella won the race on this board. It is the longest board in our inflatable series, and is both fast and maneuverable on the river.
This year, we have six team riders who are racing on the 12'6 River Runner iSUP. Noa Ginella, Kalani Vierra, Charlie MacArthur, Jen Koki, Mariko Strickland and Christian Bradley will be racing on the River Runner.
This year we've introduced a new river-specific board--the 10'0 Rapid Rider which is specifically designed with a unique shape that allows the paddler the ultimate in stability, coupled with amazing turn and spin dexterity at low planing speeds in even the trickiest currents. This board can crank a full 360 whip turn twice as fast as any conventional SUP paddleboard.
Four of our team riders will be racing on the 10'0 Rapid Rider. They are Todd Bradley, Earl Richmond, Johnny Ginella and Jason Stanson.
The 10'9 XXL iSUP is our widest and most stable inflatable paddleboard. The 34-inch width gives it both extra volume and provides a very stable ride. Three team riders will be on the XXL iSUP today and they are Alika Willis, Ryan Levingston and Sean Ginella.
Come out to watch the race today at 9:30AM on Gore Creek in Vail, Colorado or follow our progress online over at our C4 Waterman Facebook page and on Twitter. We will be doing live updates and breaking the news about who wins each division later today.
